iPhoto '11: Preview a book, card, or calendar before you order or print it

Before you place your order or print your book, card, or calendar, it’s a good idea to preview it to make sure it looks exactly the way you want it to.

After carefully previewing your project, you may want to make additional edits to text or photos before you print or order the project.

You preview your project by creating a PDF file, which you can view on your computer using Preview, Acrobat Reader, or Safari or another web browser. You can also print a PDF file from any of those applications.

Note:   In a hardcover book, the first two and last two pages of the PDF file are the book’s wraparound dust jacket.

There are three ways to make a PDF file.

To make a PDF file using the Buy button:

  1. Open the book project, open the card project, or open the calendar project.

  2. Press the Option key while you click the Buy button.

  3. Enter a name and location, and then click Save.

The PDF is saved to the location you provided.

To make a PDF file using the background shortcut menu:

  1. Open the book project, open the card project, or open the calendar project.

  2. Press the Control key while you click in the background of your project.

  3. Do one of the following:

    • Choose “Save Book as PDF,” “Save Card as PDF,” or “Save Calendar as PDF” from the shortcut menu. In the window that appears, enter a name for the PDF file, enter a location to save the file to, and then click the Save button.

    • Choose Preview Book, Preview Card, or Preview Calendar from the shortcut menu. The Preview application opens and shows a PDF file of your project. You can save it just as you would any other document.
