iPhoto '11: Show or hide photos

Show or hide photos

You can hide selected photos in an Event or album, or in a Faces or Places group, and show them only when you want to see them.

Hiding a photo can be useful if you don’t want to use it, but you’re not sure you want to delete it.

To hide a photo:

  1. Click to select Events, Faces, Places, or an album in the Source list.

If you selected an album, skip to step 3.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • In Events or Faces, double-click a particular Event or Face to show all the photos it contains.

    • In Places, click a category button, and then choose a location from the pop-up menu to see the photos for a particular location.

  3. Select the photo or photos.

  4. Do one of the following:

    • Move your pointer over the photo and click the down arrow that appears in the bottom-right corner. Click the Hide button in the shortcut menu that appears.

    • Choose Photos > Hide Photo. (If you’re in full-screen view, move your pointer to the top of the screen to make the menu bar appear.)

The photo or photos disappear. The new text “1 more hidden” appears in the title bar.

Note:   If you can still see your photos after you hide them, and the text at the top of the screen reads “Showing 1 hidden,” choose View and deselect Hidden Photos.

To show a hidden photo:

Choose View > Hidden Photos.

The photo reappears but is still marked as being in hide mode. To hide it again, choose View > Hidden Photos.

To remove photos from hiding:

  1. Choose View > Hidden Photos, so there’s a checkmark next to it. (If you’re in full-screen view, move your pointer to the top of the screen to make the menu bar appear.)

  2. Select the photo or photos you want to remove from hiding.

  3. Do one of the following:

    • Move your pointer over the photo and click the down arrow that appears in the bottom-right corner. Click the Show button in the shortcut menu that appears.

    • Choose Photos > Unhide Photo. (If you’re in full-screen view, move your pointer to the top of the screen to make the menu bar appear.) The photo or photos disappear.

This removes the photo or photos from hiding, so that they always appear when you view that group of photos.
