Combine duplicate contact cards

If you have more than one card for a contact, you can combine them, preserving all the unique information.

Contact cards in different accounts can be linked (which retains the separate cards, but displays the combined contact information in one card in Contacts). Contact cards in the same account, can be merged (which combines the cards into one card).

Link selected duplicates (in different accounts)

  1. Hold down the Command key and click the cards.
  2. Choose Card > Link Selected Cards.

    Only one card appears in Contacts. The individual cards are still in their respective accounts.

    • To see the individual cards, click the links next to the Linked label.

    • To change the contact’s name, click Linked, and then choose a name.

Merge selected duplicates (in the same account)

  1. Hold down the Command key and click the cards.
  2. Choose Card > Merge Selected Cards.

    Contacts creates a single card using the name and picture of the card that was listed first.

Merge all duplicates (in the same account)

  1. Select an account from the Groups sidebar.

    If you don’t see the sidebar, click the Groups button.

  2. Choose Card > “Look for Duplicates.”
  3. Click Merge.

    Contacts creates a single card for each contact using the name and picture of the card that was listed first.
