Shortcuts for sleep and shutting down

You can use these shortcuts when you shut down your computer or put it to sleep.

Action Shortcut

Put your Mac to sleep

Command (⌘)–Option–Media Eject key (⏏)

Turn off your Mac

Power button

Force your Mac to shut down

Hold down the power button

Force your Mac to restart

Command (⌘)-Control-Power button

Put all displays to sleep

Shift-Control-Fn-Power button

Open a dialog that lets you put your Mac to sleep, restart, or shut down

Control-Media Eject key (⏏)

Click a button in the dialog, or press S to sleep, R to restart, Return to shut down, or Esc to cancel.
