OS X Mountain Lion: Manage your portable computer’s battery
Portable Mac computers have a battery so that you can use the computers when an electric outlet isn’t available. To learn how to charge your battery and maintain battery life, see the topics below. - Charge your battery by connecting the power adapter to your computer, and then plugging it into an electric outlet.
- Check your battery’s status. The battery status menu at the right side of the menu bar shows you how much charge your battery has and whether it’s currently charging.
- Conserve your battery’s power by adjusting your settings in Energy Saver preferences.
- Calibrate your battery regularly to get the best possible performance.
