OS X Mountain Lion: Save a group of print options as a preset

Save a group of print options as a preset

If you have a combination of options that you frequently use when printing a document, you can save it as a “preset.” For example, if you often like to print two pages on each sheet of paper with a double hairline border, you can combine those options as a single preset and quickly apply them without having to select each option individually.

Save a group of options as a preset

  1. Choose File > Print.
  2. If you see a Show Details button, click it to show all available options.
  3. Select the options you want to use.
  4. Choose “Save Current Settings as Preset” from the Presets pop-up menu.
  5. Type a name for the set of options.
  6. Choose whether this preset can be used with any printer or only the currently selected printer.

Some options cannot be saved in a preset. After saving a group of print options as a preset, use the preset to see if the document prints the way you want it to.

Choose the preset from the Presets pop-up menu.

Use the Default Settings preset unless you change it

By default, when you use the Print dialog, the selected preset is the last preset you used. However, you can choose to use the Default Settings preset every time you print, unless you change it.

  1. Choose Show Presets from the Presets pop-up menu.
  2. Select “Reset Presets Menu to ‘Default Settings’ After Printing.”
