About Apple Configurator 1.6

Learn about Apple Configurator 1.6.

Apple Configurator 1.6 is a recommended update for all Apple Configurator users. This update is available from the Updates pane of the Mac App Store. Apple Configurator 1.6 requires OS X Mavericks and iTunes 11.4 or later.

Apple Configurator replaces iPhone Configuration Utility. With the the release of iOS 8, iPhone Configuration Utility is no longer supported or available for download.

To create or install an iOS configuration profile, use Apple Configurator or a Mobile Device Management (MDM) solution such as Profile Manager (included with OS X Server).

The ability to view the iOS console log (previously available in iPhone Configuration Utility) is a feature of the Xcode development tool and third-party applications.

What's new in Configurator 1.6

  • Devices are now erased when restoring a backup.

  • Improved support for assigning Pages, Numbers and Keynote documents.

  • Configurator 1.6 includes support for the following new configuration profile payloads and settings introduced in iOS 8:
