Free Apple apps for your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch with iOS 8

Find out which apps you get for free from Apple when you upgrade to iOS 8 or buy a new device with iOS 8. To qualify for these free apps, you need a device that was activated or purchased on or after September 1, 2013.

When you upgrade to iOS 8 on a qualifying device or buy a new device with iOS 8, you'll have access to these apps for free:

  • iMovie
  • GarageBand*
  • Pages
  • Numbers
  • Keynote
  • iTunes U

*To get GarageBand for free, you need a device that was activated or purchased on or after September 1, 2014.

If you bought an iOS 8 device that's 32 GB or larger, you'll have these apps already installed. The first time you open one of these apps, you'll need to sign in with your Apple ID. Then the app will be added to your account, and you can find it under Purchases in the App Store when you're logged in with that Apple ID.

If you bought an iOS 8 device that's 16 GB or smaller, or if you upgraded to iOS 8 on your existing device, you can download these apps for free. 

  1. Open the App Store.
  2. Tap Apps Made by Apple under Quick Links. 
  3. Tap Download All, or you can download apps one at a time.

To download apps larger than 100 MB, you need to be connected to Wi-Fi.
