Apple TV: How to configure a proxy using profile

Summary

Apple TV Software Update 5.1 gives Apple TV the ability to connect to the Internet using an HTTP proxy.

Use Apple Configurator* to deploy a configuration profile with a Wi-Fi payload that contains the proxy configuration.

First use Apple Configurator to import an existing profile or create a new one.

  1. Open Apple Configurator.
  2. Click Prepare.
  3. Click the + (plus sign) at the bottom of the profile box and and choose "Import Profile…" or "Create New Profile…".
    • If you are importing a profile, select it and then skip ahead to the installation instructions below.
    • If you are creating a new profile, continue to step 4.
  4. Enter a name for the profile.
  5. Select Wi-Fi from the list on the right.
  6. Enter the SSID for the wireless network to which the Apple TV should connect.
  7. Choose the appropriate encryption in the Security Type menu.
  8. Choose Manual or Automatic from the Proxy Setup menu.
    • If you choose Manual, enter the proxy server information in the appropriate fields.
  9. Click Save.

Next, install the configuration profile on your Apple TV.

Make sure that your Apple TV has the latest software version installed.
