iCloud: Configuring Mail with Mac OS X v10.6 or iOS 4

Learn how to configure your iCloud Mail account with Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard or iOS 4.

Notes:

  • This article applies only to Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard and iOS 4. If you're running OS X Lion v10.7 or later, or iOS 5 or later, learn more about setting up iCloud on all of your devices.
  • Features such as push mail, VIP Senders, and other features have additional system requirements. See iCloud: System requirements for more information.

 

Follow the instructions below to configure your iCloud Mail account on your Mac or iOS device. 

Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard

  1. Open Mail.
  2. Choose File > Add Account. (If this is the first time you've opened Mail, you'll be automatically prompted to add an account).
  3. Enter your full name, email address, and password. Then, option-Click Create to continue.
  4. For Account type, select IMAP. Then, enter a relevant description (for example, "Emily Parker's iCloud account").
  5. Enter your Incoming Mail Server, User Name, and Password using the following settings:
    • Incoming Mail Server: mail.me.com
    • User Name: Your iCloud email address (excluding @me.com)
    • Password: Your password
  6. Click Continue to proceed.
  7. Enter a description, such as "iCloud Outgoing Server."
  8. For the Outgoing Mail Server, enter: smtp.me.com.
  9. Select "Use authentication" and verify you entered your user name (your iCloud email address without @me.com) and password. Then, click Create.
  10. Verify your settings in Account Summary, and then check "Take account online."
  11. Click Create to finish configuring your mail account.
  12. After completing these steps, you can send and receive email via your iCloud account. 

iOS 4

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  3. Tap Add Account.
  4. Tap Other.
  5. Tap Add Mail Account.
  6. Enter your full name, email address, password, and description.
  7. Tap Next.
  8. Select IMAP, and then verify your name, address, and description.
  9. Scroll down and enter the following Incoming Mail Server information:
    • Host Name: mail.me.com
    • User Name: Your iCloud email address (excluding @me.com)
    • Password: Your password
  10. Enter the following Outgoing Mail Server information:
    • Host Name: smtp.me.com
    • User Name: Your iCloud email address (excluding @me.com)
    • Password: Your password
  11. Tap Next, and then tap Save.
  12. After completing these steps, you can send and receive email via your iCloud account.
