iCloud: About subscribed calendars

Summary

Learn about subscribed calendars.

Products Affected

OS X Mountain Lion, iCal 4.x, iCloud

Both Calendar for OS X Mountain Lion and iCal for OS X Lion can subscribe to various calendars, including some calendars provided by Apple. If you use iCloud Calendar with OS X Mountain Lion or Lion, or with iOS 5 or later, you can configure Calendar or iCal to push these subscribed calendars via iCloud to your iOS 5 devices and other Macs using your iCloud account.

Notes:

  • Subscriptions that you manually add on iOS devices will not push to iCloud; you need to subscribe to calendars via either Calendar or iCal on OS X in order to push those subscriptions to your other devices and computers.
  • iCloud.com and Microsoft Outlook will not display subscribed calendars pushed to iCloud.

Setting newly subscribed calendars to push with iCloud

If you are subscribing to a new calendar in either Calendar or iCal and you want to have it pushed to your devices with your other iCloud calendars, simply make sure that the Location field is set to iCloud in the new subscription screen that is displayed when adding the subscribed calendar to Calendar or iCal.

Reconfiguring existing subscribed calendars to push with iCloud

To push a calendar you have already subscribed to in Calendar or iCal (on OS X Lion 10.7.2 and later and iOS 5 devices):

  1. Open Calendar or iCal.
  2. Click on the Calendars button in the top-left.
  3. Select the subscribed calendar.
  4. Select Get Info from the Calendar or iCal Edit menu.
  5. Change location from the default On My Mac to iCloud:
  6. Click OK.
