iCloud: About email aliases

Summary

Email aliases act like nicknames for your email address; you can send and receive email with them, and people who receive email from your alias see the alias address instead of your actual iCloud email address. Though aliases serve to mask your real email address, they are not separate accounts. If you already have an active email alias, you can use it to better organize your mail or prevent unwanted email from being sent to your primary iCloud email address.

Products Affected

iCloud

iCloud users can create up to three email aliases for use with their account.

Notes:

  • If you moved your MobileMe account into an iCloud account and you had greater than three email aliases, you can keep all of your existing email aliases in your iCloud account until you delete an alias. If your total number of email aliases in iCloud is more than three and you delete an alias, you will not be able to create a new alias to replace the deleted alias.
  • Aliases are not transferable. Only the iCloud account that created the alias can use the alias.
  • Once you create an alias it cannot be made into its own account.
