Final Cut Pro X: Importing Sony XDCAM media

Summary

To be able to import Sony XDCAM, XDCAM HD and XDCAM EX media into Final Cut Pro X, you'll need to download and install the Sony XDCAM Transfer software and XDCAM Drive software.

  1. Choose Software Update from the Apple () menu after installing Final Cut Pro X to install Pro Apps QuickTime codecs.
  2. Visit Sony's XDCAM Product Firmware and Setup Utilities page and download "XDCAM Drive Software for PDW-U1 and PDW-U2 XDCAM Drives (SD/HD)".
  3. Then visit Sony's XDCAM Applications, Plug-Ins and Device Drives page and download "XDCAM Transfer for Apple Final Cut Pro".
  4. Install both applications.
  5. Open XDCAM Transfer in the Applications folder.
  6. Choose File > Add Source.
  7. Navigate to the material you would like to import and click Import.
  8. By default, the XDCAM Media will be copied to the ~/Movies folder into a folder called "Sony XDCAM Transfer."
  9. In Final Cut Pro X:
    • Choose File > Import > Files.
    • Navigate to the Sony XDCAM Transfer folder in the ~/Movies folder and choose File > Import > Files to import the media.
