MobileMe: How to back up MobileMe Contacts, Calendars, and Bookmarks

OS X Lion and Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard
- Address Book contacts
- From the File menu, choose Export > Address Book Archive to back up your entire Address Book database.
- iCal calendars
- Open iCal.
- Select one of the calendars in the Calendar list.
- Choose File > Export > Export.
- Save the file to a safe location.
- Repeat for every calendar you want to back up.
- Safari bookmarks
- To export bookmarks, choose File > Export Bookmarks. Specify a location for the exported file. The file’s name will be “Safari Bookmarks.html”.
Outlook 2007 or Outlook 2010:
- Contacts
- Export your contact data via Outlook's Export Wizard. For more information, see this article.
- Calendars:
- Open Outlook.
- Select the calendar you wish to backup in the Calendar list. Uncheck all other calendars.
- Choose File > Save As.
- Adjust the save settings to include the whole calendar (this will vary depending on your version of Outlook).
- Save the calendar to a safe location.
- Repeat for every calendar you want to back up.
- Safari bookmarks:
- To export bookmarks, choose File > Export Bookmarks. Specify a location for the exported file. The file’s name will be “Safari Bookmarks.html”.
- Internet Explorer favorites (bookmarks):

iOS Devices
- If you are syncing Bookmarks, Calendars, and Contacts with MobileMe, you can back up your data from your computer as described in the appropriate section above.
- If you have never set up syncing with MobileMe:
- Connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your computer.
- Select your device on the left side of the iTunes Window. Click the Info tab for your device. Enable the items you want to sync, and then click Sync.
- Follow the steps for OS X Lion or Windows above to back up your contacts, calendars, and bookmarks to your computer. After you have successfully backed up your data to your computer, it is recommended that you turn on syncing for Contacts, Calendars, and Bookmarks on your iOS device. This will keep your data in sync wirelessly with MobileMe.
