Mac OS X Server v10.5, v10.6: Symlinks in FTPRoot for FTP-enabled share points must be manually removed

Summary

The optional FTP service automatically generates symlinks to the appropriate share paths inside of the configured FTPRoot folder. If a share point is unshared or FTP access is disabled for a share point, these symlinks are not automatically removed.

Products Affected

Mac OS X Server 10.5, Mac OS X Server 10.6

To manually remove these symlinks:

  1. Unshare or disable FTP access to the desired share points using Server Admin.
  2. Open the FTPRoot folder in the Finder on the server (the default path is /Library/FTPServer/FTPRoot).
  3. Move any symlinks for removed Share Points to the Trash.

Note: If you remove a symlink for a Share Point that is still configured for FTP access, that symlink will be recreated the next time a client logs in to the FTP service.
