Academic versions of Aperture 2 are eligible for upgrade to Aperture 3. Earlier Academic versions are not eligible. NFR versions are not eligible for upgrade. -
Do I need the previous version of Aperture installed on the computer I'm installing the Aperture 3 upgrade on?
The previous version you're upgrading from does not need to be installed when installing the Aperture 3 upgrade. All that is required is the eligible previous version's serial number. -

What are the differences between a retail and academic copy of Aperture 3?
There are no technical differences between a retail and academic copy of Aperture 3. An Academic version includes all features and materials that are included with the full retail version. It is not functionally limited, and the output is not watermarked. -
Is a trial version of Aperture 3 available?
A fully functional 30 day trial is available for download from the Aperture trial download page. -
Is Aperture 3 available as a downloadable product?
A serial number can be purchased from within the downloadable trial version to convert it to a full retail copy. -
How many computers can I install Aperture 3 on?
You may download and use Aperture 3 for personal, non-commercial use on any Apple-branded products running Mac OS X (“Mac Computer”) that you own or control.
If you are a commercial enterprise or educational institution, you may download Aperture 3 for use by either (a) a single individual on each of the Mac Computer(s) used by that individual that you own or control or (b) multiple individuals on a single shared Mac Computer that you own or control. For example, a single employee may use Aperture 3 on both the employee’s desktop Mac Computer and laptop Mac Computer, or multiple students may serially use Aperture 3 on a single Mac Computer located at a resource center or library. For the sake of clarity, each Mac Computer used serially by multiple users requires a separate license. -
