This firmware update addresses an issue with the built-in iSight camera on the LED Cinema Display where the camera may not be recognized by some applications.

This article has been archived and is no longer updated by Apple.

Note: Some USB and FireWire devices may prevent firmware updates from installing correctly; disconnect non-essential devices and use only an Apple keyboard and mouse to apply the update.

  1. Connect your computer to a working power source, connect only one Apple LED Cinema Display to your Mac, and quit all applications.
Note: Make sure the USB cable you use to attach your Mac to your Apple LED Cinema Display remains connected for the entire process.
  2. Download the update.
    1. The downloader will place the disk image with an installer in your Downloads folder or in the location specified in the General tab under Safari > Preferences.
    2. If you downloaded the disk image via Safari, Safari will notify you that an application is in the image.  Click OK to continue.
    3. If "Open safe files after downloading" is enabled in Safari preferences, the disk image file will mount by itself.  If that preference is not enabled in Safari, double-click the disk image to mount it.
  3. Install the update.
    1. In the mounted disk image, double-click the DisplayCamFirmwareUpdate.pkg file to start the firmware update process.
    2. A welcome screen appears.  Click Continue.  If you receive the message "This computer does not need this update," your computer is not eligible for this update.
    3. A Software License Agreement window appears.  Click Continue.  To agree to the terms, click Agree.
    4. A standard install window appears.  Click Install to install the Display Camera Firmware Update in the Applications/Utilities folder.
    5. Enter the administrative password for your computer at the prompt.  Click OK.
    6. An "Installation completed successfully" window appears.  Click Close.
    7. The LED Cinema Display iSight Camera Firmware Update starts.
    8. Read the onscreen instructions that appear, then click Update.
    9. Enter the administrative password for your computer at the prompt.  Click OK.
Important: Do not interrupt the update. Make sure the USB cable you use to attach your Mac to your Apple LED Cinema Display remains connected for the entire process. Your display's camera will not function while the update is running.
    10. A status bar at the bottom of the Firmware Update window indicates the progress of the update.
    11. When complete, a message appears to confirm "Your firmware has been successfully updated."  Click OK.
