Learn about entering a QuickTime Pro registration key in Mac OS X.

Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard:

Please see Installing QuickTime Player 7 on Mac OS X v10.6 or Later for complete details.

Mac OS X v10.5.8 Leopard or earlier: follow these steps to enter your QuickTime Pro registration key

  1. From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
  2. Choose View > QuickTime. Alternatively, you can also choose the QuickTime icon in the Internet and Network category.
  3. The Register tab in the QuickTime pane should come up by default where you can enter the name and registration number exactly as they appear on your Confirmation of QuickTime Pro Upgrade message.

  4. Please note: Some earlier versions of Mac OS X may have an Edit Registration or Registration button in the Plug-ins tab of the QuickTime System Preference pane. Click this button and a dialog will appear where you can enter your registration information.

When successfully registered, "QuickTime Pro" will appear under the Registration code and "PRO" will appear on the QuickTime icon. The "Buy QuickTime Pro" button will also no longer appear.

—Stop here unless you cannot register a non-Admin user account—

Using QuickTime Pro With Non-Admin User Accounts (Mac OS X 10.2 and later)

Each non-Admin user must enter the QuickTime Pro registration key separately. Follow these steps in the event that you cannot open the QuickTime preference pane while logged in as a non-Admin user:

  1. Log in as an Admin user.
  2. From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
  3. Choose View > QuickTime. Alternatively, you can also choose the QuickTime icon in the Internet and Network category.
  4. Select the non-Admin user account that needs to enter a QuickTime Pro registration key.
  5. Click Capabilities (Limitations in Mac OS X 10.3).
  6. Make sure that the "Open All System Preferences" option is checked. Click OK (Mac OS X 10.2 only).
(By default, this option is checked when non-Admin accounts are created.)
  7. Repeat steps 3 through 5 for each non-Admin account.
  8. Log in with a non-Admin user account. Register QuickTime Pro as discussed above. Repeat for each non-Admin account.
  9. If wanted, log in as the Admin user and deselect the "Open All System Preferences" option for the non-Admin account(s).

Additional information

When entering the name, do not enter a nickname, abbreviated name, or anything other than the name as it appears on your Confirmation of QuickTime Pro Upgrade message.

The QuickTime Pro registration number consists of five sets of characters, each separated by a hyphen. You must include the hyphens when entering the QuickTime Pro registration number. If the name or registration number are not entered exactly, an alert appears or "Invalid Registration" will appear under the Registration Code

You can download QuickTime software from the QuickTime website.
