Archived - About the Multi-Touch Trackpad update 1.1 for Windows XP and Vista

This update improves reliability while running Microsoft Windows XP and Windows Vista on a Mac computer using Boot Camp.

  1. Using Windows XP or Vista, download the update from the Apple website.
  2. When the download is complete, AppleBcUpdate.exe appears on the desktop.
  3. Double-click on AppleBcUpdate.exe and follow the onscreen instructions to install the update.
  4. If your computer is not eligible for this update, you'll receive a "This update is not intended for this computer and will not be installed" message when you start the update.
  5. Follow the instructions in the Device Driver Installation wizard. 
  6. When the update has finished installing, an installation wizard screen with the message "The drivers were successfully installed on this computer" will appear.

Additional Information

This update is not automatically offered to computers that are running 64-bit editions of Microsoft Vista.  If you have a 64-bit edition, you will need to download and apply this update from this website.

Follow these steps to determine if this update has been already applied.

  1. From the Windows start menu, click All Programs, then click Accessories.
  2. Select System Tools.
  3. Select System Information.
  4. Open Software Environment by clicking the plus sign (+) next to it.
  5. Click "Signed Drivers".  If this update was applied successfully, Apple Multi-Touch and Apple Multi-Touch Mouse should be version 2.1.2.112.
    Note: By default, .exe and other file extensions are hidden.  Follow these steps to show file extensions:
    1. Go to Start menu > Settings > Control Panel > Folder Options.
    2. In the Folder Options control panel, click the View tab.
    3. Disable "Hide extensions for known file types".
    4. Click OK.
