Final Cut Studio (2009): Installing content when upgrading
Summary
If you are upgrading from a previous Final Cut Studio installation, there are a few situations you need to be aware of.
Products Affected
Final Cut Studio (2009)
Default Content Locations
By default, Final Cut Studio content is installed in a centrally located folder.
What Happens with Custom Content Locations?
If you selected a custom location for your content when you installed an earlier version of Final Cut Studio, two things can happen when you install this version of Final Cut Studio content:
- If you enter the same custom content location you used when you installed the previous version of Final Cut Studio:
The Final Cut Studio installer recognizes the content and leaves it at its current location, adding any new content items, updating older items, and removing obsolete items.
- If you enter a new custom content location or use the default content location:
The Final Cut Studio installer assumes that there is no previously installed content and installs all the content in the new custom location (if one is specified) or the default location. This can result in old and new content being on your system in two locations, using more hard disk space than necessary.
What Happens with Soundtrack Pro Content?
If you select a location, either the default location or the previously used custom location, that contains Soundtrack Pro audio content using the AIFF format, that content remains on your hard disk, and only the surround audio content in the CAF format is installed.
Additional Information
Important: The audio content on the Final Cut Studio Content discs uses the Apple Loops file format, which is based on Core Audio Format (CAF). These files use Apple Lossless compression to retain the highest quality while reducing the space required to store the files on your hard disk. Older Apple Loops files were based on the AIFF format.
This information is available in the "Installing Your Software" booklet included with your software and also available on the Final Cut Studio Install disc.
