For iOS 4.3 or later

Enabling syncing with MobileMe

When you enable syncing for your contacts or calendars on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, you may see a dialogue stating:

"Your contacts/calendar will be merged with MobileMe."

Selecting Cancel will not sync your contacts, and the slider will remain in the off position. Selecting Merge will sync and merge the contacts on your device and on MobileMe.

When you enable syncing for bookmarks, it automatically merges the bookmarks on your device with those stored on MobileMe. No dialogue will appear.

Disabling syncing with MobileMe / Deleting a MobileMe account

  • Disabling syncing with MobileMe:

When you disable syncing on an iOS device, you may see a dialogue stating:
“What would you like to do with the previously synced MobileMe contacts/calendars/bookmarks on your iPhone/iPad/iPod touch?”

  • Deleting a MobileMe account:

When you delete a MobileMe account from an iOS device, you may see a dialogue stating:
“What would you like to do with MobileMe contacts, calendars, and bookmarks on your iPhone/iPad/iPod touch when the account is deleted?”

In both of the above scenarios, choosing "Keep on My iPhone/iPad/iPod touch" will keep the data on your iOS device, even if you are no longer syncing with MobileMe. You can sync this data with a USB cable using iTunes when you connect your device to your computer. MobileMe will not delete your data, so you still will be able to access the data at me.com and continue to sync it over the air with other devices and computers.

Choosing "Delete from My iPhone/iPad/iPod touch" will delete the listed data you were syncing with MobileMe from your iOS device. MobileMe will not delete your data, so you still will be able to access the data at me.com and continue to sync it over the air with other devices and computers.

For iOS 3 -  iOS 4.2

Note: You should update your iOS to 4.3 or later when using MobileMe Sync. Learn more about MobileMe system requirements.

Enabling syncing with MobileMe

When you enable syncing on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, you may see a dialogue stating:

"There are existing contacts/calendars/bookmarks on your iPhone/iPad/iPod touch. Would you like to merge them with your MobileMe account?”

When presented with this choice, merging with MobileMe is the recommended option as it will combine the contacts/calendars/bookmarks on your iOS device and sync them with MobileMe while deleting duplicate entries. If you do not merge, your MobileMe data will be kept separate from the other data on your device, which may cause redundant information that will look like data duplication (for example, multiple copies of the same contact). Selecting Cancel will not sync your contacts, and the slider will remain in the off position.

In both of the above scenarios, choosing "Keep on My iPhone/iPad/iPod touch" will keep the data on your iOS device, even if you are no longer syncing with MobileMe. For iOS 2.x

Note: You should use iOS 4.3 or later with MobileMe Sync. Significant data loss could occur if you attempt Sync with iOS 2.x.

Enabling syncing with MobileMe

When you enable syncing for contacts, calendars, and bookmarks on an iPhone/iPod touch, you may see a dialogue stating:

“Syncing with MobileMe will remove your existing contacts, calendars, and bookmarks from your iPhone/iPod touch?”

With iOS 2.x, enabling syncing with MobileMe will erase the listed data from your iPhone/iPod touch. You should make sure that you have synced your device recently with your computer with a USB cable using iTunes in order not to lose data. To enable syncing with MobileMe, tap Sync.

Disabling syncing with MobileMe / Deleting a MobileMe account

  • Deleting a MobileMe account:

When you delete a MobileMe account from an iPhone/iPod touch, you may see a dialogue stating:

“Deleting this account will remove its mail, contacts, calendars, and bookmarks from your iPhone/iPod touch.”

Tapping "Delete account" will delete the listed data from your iPhone/iPod touch you are syncing with MobileMe. MobileMe will not delete your data, so you will still be able to access it at me.com and continue to sync it over the air with your other devices and computers.

  • Disabling syncing with MobileMe:

When you disable syncing on an iPhone/iPod touch, you may see a dialogue stating:

“Synced contacts/calendars/bookmarks will be removed from your iPhone/iPod touch.”

Tapping "Stop Syncing" will delete the listed data from your iPhone/iPod touch. MobileMe will not delete your data, so you will still be able to access it at me.com and continue to sync it with your other devices and computers.
