Logic Pro and Express: Rebuilding the Loop Index

Summary

In certain situations the Loop Index may become unusable and may need to be rebuilt.

Products Affected

Logic Express 7, Logic Express 8, Logic Express 9.x, Logic Pro 7, Logic Pro 8, Logic Pro 9, Logic Studio, Logic Studio (2009)

If you see these symptoms you may need to rebuild the Loop Index:

  • A No Apple Loops Found message appears when you open the Loop Browser.
  • Loop Browser buttons are dimmed and no loops appear in the Browser.
  • Loops appear in red in the Browser.
  • Loops are missing from the Browser
  • There are other issues involving Apple Loops.

 

Rebuilding the loop index

On Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard

  1. Quit Logic if it is open.
  2. In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder.
  3. Type /Library/Audio/ in the "Go to the folder" field.
  4. Press the Go button.
  5. Place the Apple Loops Index folder in the Trash.  Note: GarageBand 1 and Jampacks 1-3 used a different location. See Where loops get installed for more information.
  6. Open Logic.
  7. Drag the Apple Loops folder into the Loop Browser in Logic. Enter your administrator password if prompted.

    Note: If you have GarageBand 1 or have installed GarageBand Jam Packs, repeat the last step for the GarageBand Jam Pack folders (See Where loops get installed for more information).

On OS X Lion and OS X Mountain Lion

  1. Quit Logic if it is open.
  2. In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder.
  3. Type /Library/Audio/Apple Loops Index/ in the "Go to the folder" field. Note: GarageBand 1 and Jampacks 1-3 used a different location. See Where loops get installed for more information.
  4. Press the Go button.
  5. Place the Search Index files in the Trash.
  6. Open Logic. 
  7. In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder.
  8. Type /Library/Audio/ in the "Go to the folder" field.
  9. Press the Go button.
  10. Drag the folder /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/ from the finder into the Loop Browser in Logic. Enter your administrator password if prompted.

    Note: If you have GarageBand 1 or have installed GarageBand Jam Packs, repeat the last step for the GarageBand Jam Pack folders (See Where loops get installed for more information).
