Summary

If you have enabled Junk mail filtering in MobileMe Mail and you also use Mac OS X Mail to check your email, the contents of your Junk folder may not match unless you choose the right settings. By default, Mac OS X Mail stores junk messages locally, whereas MobileMe Mail stores messages on an IMAP server.

For a consistent experience between MobileMe Mail and Mac OS X Mail, make sure your Mac OS X Mail preferences are configured this way:

  1. Open Mail on your Mac.
  2. Choose Preferences from the Mail menu.
  3. Click Junk Mail.
  4. Make sure "Enable junk mail filtering" is selected.
  5. Click Accounts.
  6. Select your MobileMe account.
  7. Click the Mailbox Behaviors tab.
  8. Make sure "Store junk messages on the server" is enabled.
  9. Enter these same settings on other Macs where you use Mac OS X Mail to access your MobileMe email.

If you have checked the "Automatically move messages marked as junk to the Junk folder" option in the MobileMe Mail Preferences, do the same in Mac OS X Mail. In the Junk Mail tab of the Mail Preferences, select the "Move it to the Junk mailbox" option under "When junk mail arrives".

With these settings, all messages marked as junk will be placed into the same folder on the MobileMe server. Whenever you review your Junk folder and remove messages, they'll be removed permanently.

Note: Storing Junk mail on the server counts against your online storage, so you might want to delete junk messages as soon as you're sure they are junk. Messages in the Junk folder will be deleted automatically if they are more than 60 days old.
