If you've purchased the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, here is how to determine which version is installed on your computer.

Mac OS X:

  1. In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder, type /System/Library/QuickTime and click Go.
  2. Find the file named QuickTimeMPEG2.component.
  3. Select QuickTimeMPEG2.component by clicking it once with the mouse.
  4. Choose File > Get Info (Command-I).
  5. The version information appears under the General section of the Info window.

Windows XP

  1. From the Start menu, click Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, open Add or Remove Programs.
  3. Select "QuickTime MPEG2" from the list of currently installed programs.
  4. Click the "Click here for support information" link to see the version information.

Windows Vista

  1. From the Start menu, click Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, click Uninstall a program. The Programs and Features control panel opens.
    Alternately, in Classic Panel of Control Panel, click Programs and Features.
  3. Click the drop-down menu to the right of the Views button and choose Details. Alternatively, select Details from the View menu.
  4. Right-click in Column Header and choose More from the shortcut menu.
  5. Make sure the Version Box checkbox is selected and click OK.
  6. Look for QuickTime MPEG2 and look in the version column for the version number.

Additional Information

Note: If you have previously purchased the QuickTime MPEG-2 Component, use these steps to download the current version:

  1. Visit the Apple Online Store and click "Account" in the Store menu.
  2. Click "Downloadable Software Purchases."
  3. Enter your Apple ID and password, and you will see a link to the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component.
  4. Click the link to download and install the current version.
