Follow these steps to install the latest version of Java for Mac OS X using Software Update.
- Open Software Update by choosing Software Update from the Apple menu.
- From the list of updates that appears, select only the checkbox for Java for Mac OS X Update.
- For Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger, select Java for Mac OS X 10.4, Release 7.
- For Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard, select Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 2.
- Click Install.
