Summary

If you do a clean installation of Mac OS X Server 10.4, such as with an "Erase and Install," your system will not include Macintosh Manager service, and it cannot be installed later.

Products Affected

Mac OS X Server 10.4

If you install Mac OS X Server 10.4 as an upgrade over Mac OS X Server 10.3, Macintosh Manager service will be retained. It'll appear in Server Admin, and will be enabled or disabled according to your previous 10.3 setting.

Notes:

  1. Apple will only provide Macintosh Manager technical support on Mac OS X Server 10.4 to customers who performed "upgrade" installations from Mac OS X Server 10.3. Apple will not provide support for Macintosh Manager on any new Mac OS X Server 10.4 installation.
  2. Macintosh Manager will be neither included nor supported on any server products after Mac OS X Server 10.4.
  3. Late-model computers that have Mac OS X 10.4 or later as a system requirement cannot be Macintosh Management servers, because there is not a supported way to install the software.
