Summary

Digital video requires a lot of bandwidth (the rate at which data can be transferred) and disk storage space. You'll want to compress, or encode, your movie for delivery via the web. Here are some approaches you can take to compress your movies before you import them into a Movie template in iWeb.

Products Affected

iLife '06, iWeb

If you are working in iMovie:

  1. Select the movie or individual clips you wish to export.
  2. From the Share menu, choose iWeb (Share > iWeb).
  3. Select either Share for web or Share for video podcast (for a blog entry or podcast).

  4. Click Share.

If you have QuickTime Pro:

  1. From the File menu, choose Export (File > Export).
  2. In the Export window, choose Movie to QuickTime Movie from the Export pop-up menu.
  3. Then you can choose a target setting from the Use pop-up menu or create custom settings by clicking the Options button.

Note: HDV movies that have not been compressed for the web may not play properly in some browsers.
