Summary

Mac G5 (iSight) and Intel-based iMac computers come with a built-in iSight camera which you can use primarily for video chat sessions on the internet over a broadband internet connection. You can also use another video capture device, such as an external FireWire iSight camera.

Products Affected

iMac (20-inch, Mid 2007), iMac (24-inch Mid 2007), iMac (24-inch, Late 2006), iMac G5 (20-Inch iSight), iMac G5 (17-Inch iSight), iMac (20-inch Late 2006), iMac (17-inch, Late 2006 CD), iMac (17-inch, Late 2006), iMac (24-inch, Early 2008), iMac (20-inch, Early 2008)

When you plug in other video capture devices, the iChat AV preferences will have a Camera pulldown menu. From this menu, you can choose any camera that the computer recognizes to use with iChat AV.

With an additional video capture device plugged in, Photo Booth will use whichever camera isn't selected in iChat AV preferences as Photo Booth's video input. For example, you have an external FireWire iSight connected to your iMac G5 (iSight) computer. iChat AV is set to use the built-in iSight camera. When you open Photo Booth, you'll see that Photo Booth is using the external FireWire iSight camera.

If you want to swap cameras so Photo Booth uses the camera iChat has been using, close Photo Booth and change the iChat preferences to the other camera. Using the previous example, you can have Photo Booth use the built-in iSight by closing Photo Booth and switching the iChat AV preferences to use the external iSight camera. Now when you launch Photo Booth, it will use the built-in iSight camera.
