Summary

The Set Startup Disk management feature within Apple Remote Desktop will display NetInstall and NetBoot images which are built for the same architecture as the computer you're administering from. For instance, PowerPC-specific images won't be visible in the Remote Desktop admin application on an Intel-based Mac.

Products Affected

Apple Remote Desktop 3.X, Apple Remote Desktop 2.2

However, you can still easily set the startup volume for a client based on either architecture by using the Custom Volume option.

  1. Select one or more Mac OS X computers in the Remote Desktop window.
  2. Choose Manage > Set Startup Disk.
  3. The list that appears shows the client's local hard disk, a custom NetBoot server item, and a listing of all NetBoot and Network Install volumes available to your admin computer.
  4. Choose the Custom Volume option.
  5. In the fields that appear, enter the NetBoot/NetInstall server's IP address or fully qualified domain name, as well as the NetBoot or NetInstall volume name.
  6. If desired, select Restart When Done. If selected, the client computer will restart after having its startup volume set. You need to have Restart privileges to use this option.
  7. Click Set.
