Archived - How to tell if Software Update for Windows is working correctly when no updates are available
Software Update is an Apple-supplied Windows program that updates Apple software (such as iTunes and QuickTime) over the Internet.
To check whether Apple Software Update is working correctly, do as below:
- Windows XP and Windows 2000: On the Start menu, click All Programs, then click Apple Software Update folder, and open Apple Software Update.
- Windows Vista: On the Start menu, select All Programs and click Apple Software Update. If Windows needs your permission to continue, click Continue.
Apple Software Update is working correctly if a dialog appears, stating, “Checking for new software”. If software updates are not necessary, another dialog reports that your software is up to date. Otherwise, Apple Software Update lists the software updates that are currently available. To update software, select the title(s) and click Install.
If no dialogs appear when you open the program, choose Check for Updates from the File menu. If no dialogs appear even after you choose Check for Updates, Software Update is not working correctly. Verify that your Internet connection is working properly and try again. If Software Update is still not working correctly, you may need to repair it.
