iTunes offers parental, enterprise, and education controls which give system administrators the ability to set content restrictions. The following information is for customers who want to pre-configure parental and/or other controls in iTunes for Mac OS X. This information applies to iTunes 7.1 and later.

The various feature controls in iTunes for Mac OS X are managed with Workgroup Manager by following these steps:

  1. In Workgroup Manager, select a user, group, or computer list.
  2. Select Preferences, then click the Details tab.
  3. Click the Add button, and add the following preference file:

Note: This file is the iTunes preferences file of the currently logged-in user, and will be used by Workgroup Manager as a template for configuring the managed settings for your users, groups, or computers.  (If this file is not present, you may need to open iTunes to create it.)

  4. Double-click the newly-added preference item to edit it.
