MobileMe: How to publish a custom website
Summary
After you create a custom website (either in a web design application or by hand in a text editor), you can publish it to your iDisk as described below.
Note: If any issues occur with the custom pages, they will need to be addressed by either the vendor of the HTML editing software, or whoever wrote the underlying HTML code. Apple does not offer assistance for custom page design.
Products Affected
MobileMe, MobileMe iDisk
To publish your website, upload the HTML files (and any files that go with them) to a subfolder in the Sites folder (in the Web folder) on your iDisk. The homepage for your site must be named "index.html".
For assistance with using your iDisk, please refer to the iDisk section of MobileMe Help. If you do not have a Web folder on your iDisk, see the "Creating a Web folder" section below for information about how to create one.
Once you have uploaded your website files, your site's URL will be in this format:
http://web.me.com/membername/foldername/
Note: If you only plan to publish custom sites to your MobileMe account, you can make your site's URL shorter by placing your site (and its main index.html file) in the main Web/Sites folder instead. The resulting URL will just be: http://web.me.com/membername . However, if you plan on mixing both custom and iWeb-created sites, you should keep your custom site entirely within a subfolder of the Web/Sites folder.
Creating a Web folder
The Web folder is a reserved folder that must be generated by the MobileMe servers. To create this folder if you don't have one, simply upload a picture to your MobileMe Gallery. You can remove the picture immediately afterwards.
To add a picture to the MobileMe Gallery:
- Go to http://www.me.com/gallery and log in if necessary.
- Click the Add (+) button to add a new album and give the album a name.
- Click the Upload arrow and upload a picture.
The Web folder will be automatically created after you follow these steps.
To delete the album, select the album from the Album list and then click the Delete button on the toolbar.
