Summary

iWeb gives you the ability to publish directly to your MobileMe account, to a folder for you to upload to the server of your choice, or to a third-party FTP server (iWeb '09 only). There are some differences between sites that are published automatically to MobileMe and those that are published to a folder or FTP server.

Products Affected

iWeb '08 (2.x), MobileMe, iWeb '09

RSS

If you are setting up a blog or podcast with iWeb and publish to MobileMe, iWeb will generate the RSS feeds and Subscribe buttons on the pages you publish.

If you are setting up a blog or podcast with iWeb and publish to a folder or FTP server, you will need to manually enter the URL for your website in order for your RSS files to be created properly. For more information, see the iWeb Help article for iWeb '08 or iWeb '09.

Password protection

You can set up your website so that only people who know the user name and password can visit it. This feature works only if you publish your site to MobileMe. For more information, see iWeb 2.0 Help: Protecting a site with a password for iWeb '08 or iWeb 3.0 Help: Protecting a site with a password for iWeb '09.

Hit Counter

Adding a hit counter keeps track of the number of visits to your webpage. If you publish your site to a folder or FTP server, the hit counter will not appear on the published page. For additional information, see Counting visitors to your webpages.

Comments

You can enable comments for blogs, podcasts, and photos you publish to MobileMe. For additional information, see the iWeb Help for iWeb '08 or iWeb '09.
