To find the serial number using software

On most computers with Mac OS X you can find the serial number in the About This Mac window. See technical document 106486, "About This Mac Window Provides Computer Serial Number".

To find the serial number located on the computer

The serial number location is inside the access panel, directly below the air deflector. The serial number label also lists model configuration information, including:

  • microprocessor speed
  • installed memory - both amount and speed
  • hard drive size
  • optical drive type
  • graphics card type
