MacBook Air: How to use Migration Assistant

To use the Migration Assistant

1. If you are migrating from a Mac with Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard, first update it to Mac OS X v10.5.6 or later.
   If you are migrating from a Mac with Mac OS X v10.4 or later, update it to Mac OS X v10.4.11, then install "DVD or CD Sharing" from the MacBook Air OS X Install Disc 1.
    
2. Make sure that both the original Mac and MacBook Air are connected to the same network, either wirelessly or via Ethernet. (You can directly connect the two Macs via an Ethernet cable if both are Ethernet capable. To make MacBook Air Ethernet capable, connect using the Apple USB Ethernet Adapter.)
3. On both your MacBook Air and other Mac, open Migration Assistant (located in /Applications/Utilities/), then click Continue.




4. On the other Mac, when you are prompted for a migration method, select "To another Mac", then click Continue.




5. On your MacBook Air, select "From another Mac" as the Migration Method, then click Continue.
   After you click continue, you should see a passcode on your MacBook Air in the Connect Your Computers screen as shown below.




6. On your other Mac, type in the passcode that appeared on your MacBook Air as shown below.




7. On your other Mac, close all other applications, then click Continue to start the migration.
