iTunes stores the songs you import in the iTunes Media folder. Depending on what version of Windows you have, the iTunes Media folder is in the following locations:

  • Windows XP - C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Media
  • Windows Vista - C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media
  • Windows 7 - C:\Users\username\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Media

All of your songs or spoken word files are in the iTunes Media folder, including:

  • Songs imported from CDs
  • Songs purchased from the iTunes Store
  • If you have turned on the "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" option in Preferences:
    • Files copied from the desktop to iTunes
    • Files added to iTunes using either the Add File to Library or Add Folder to Library commands in the File menu

You can also find where an audio file is stored using iTunes:

  1. Open iTunes
  2. Select the song.
  3. From the File menu, choose Get Info.
  4. Click the Summary pane, if necessary. The Where section indicates the path where the song is stored.

Additional Information

If you created your iTunes Library using iTunes 8 or earlier, the iTunes Media folder is instead called "iTunes Music."
