What is a QuickTime 7 Pro registration key (code) and how do I purchase one?
A QuickTime 7 Pro registration key (code) can be used to unlock editing, converting, and exporting features in QuickTime 7. It is a series of numbers and letters that appear in an email sent to you after purchasing a key from the Apple Online Store.
Note: QuickTime 7 Pro registration keys are only for use with QuickTime 7. They are not for use with QuickTime X, which is included with Mac OS X v10.6 and later. More information about QuickTime X can be found later in this article.
The terms "registration key" or "registration code" are used interchangeably and refer to the same item.
How do I enter a QuickTime Pro registration key?
Entering Your QuickTime 7 Pro registration key in Mac OS X v10.6 or later
- In Finder choose Go > Utilities.
- Double-click "QuickTime Player 7" to open it.
- In QuickTime Player 7 choose QuickTime Player 7 > Registration.
- Type your name and QuickTime 7 Pro registration key into the fields exactly as they appear in the email sent to you by the Apple Online Store. Registration keys consist of five groups of four characters separated by dashes. Use zeros (0), and not uppercase Os. Once you have entered all of the information, press the Tab key. The QuickTime logo will change to the QuickTime Pro logo, denoting that registration is complete.
If you work with older media types or have workflows that are not supported by QuickTime X, you can install the QuickTime Player 7 application and use your QuickTime 7 Pro registration key (serial number or "pro key") with it.

- Unlock the features of QuickTime 7 Pro by following these steps to enter your registration key (serial number or "pro key")
- In Finder, choose Apple () > System Preferences. Click the QuickTime icon, and then click the Register button.
- Type in your name and QuickTime 7 Pro registration key into the fields exactly as they appear in the email sent to you by the Apple Online Store. Registration keys consist of five groups of four characters separated by dashes. Use zeros (0), and not uppercase Os. Once you have entered all of the information, press the Tab key. The QuickTime logo will change to the QuickTime Pro logo, denoting that registration is complete.
Entering Your QuickTime Pro registration key in Microsoft Windows
- Unlock the features of QuickTime 7 Pro by following these steps to enter your registration key (i.e., serial number or "pro key").
- From the Windows Desktop, click on the Start menu and choose QuickTime Player. Or, double-click the QuickTime Player shortcut on the Desktop. Note: The QuickTime Player application will only be available if QuickTime 7 is already installed. QuickTime 7 for Windows can be downloaded from Apple Support Downloads.
- Once QuickTime Player has started, choose Edit from the menu bar, select Preferences and then Register.
- Type in your name and QuickTime 7 Pro registration key into the fields exactly as they appear in the email sent to you by the Apple Online Store. Registration keys consist of five groups of four characters separated by dashes. Use zeros (0), and not uppercase Os. Once you have entered all of the information, click Apply. If the information you entered is correct, you will see "QuickTime 7 Pro" below your registration key denoting that registration is complete.
Note: You only need to enter your QuickTime Pro registration key once.
What is QuickTime X, and will my QuickTime 7 Pro key work with it?
QuickTime X comes with Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard and later. It includes a redesigned QuickTime Player application that delivers many of the features of QuickTime 7 Pro. For example, you can make audio and video recordings, trim clips, and convert media to H.264 for your iPhone, iPad, iPod, and Apple TV. QuickTime X does not use registration keys to enable additional functionality.
If you work with older media types or have workflows that are not supported by QuickTime X, you can install the QuickTime Player 7 application and use your QuickTime 7 Pro registration with it.
