What is a QuickTime Pro registration key (code) and how do I get one?
A QuickTime Pro 7 registration key (code) can be used to unlock QuickTime Pro editing, converting, and exporting features in QuickTime 7. It can be purchased from the Apple Online Store. More information on QuickTime 7 Pro features can be found on the QuickTime website and in the QuickTime 7 User Guide.
Note: The series of numbers and letters that unlock QuickTime Pro features of the QuickTime Player are referred to as the "QuickTime Pro Registration Key" or "QuickTime Pro Registration Code". These terms are used interchangeably and refer to the same item.
What is QuickTime X, and will my QuickTime 7 Pro key work with it?
QuickTime X is installed by default with Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard. QuickTime X includes QuickTime Player version 10.0 or later. It does not require a registration key.
However, you can also install QuickTime Player 7 in Mac OS X v10.6 (in addition to QuickTime X), and use your QuickTime 7 Pro registration with it. QuickTime 7 Pro may be useful if you work with older media file formats, or have AppleScript-based workflows which are based on QuickTime 7.
For more information about installing QuickTime Player 7 or entering your QuickTime 7 Pro registration key (code) in Mac OS X v10.6, see Installing QuickTime Player 7 on Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard.

You can download both the Mac and Microsoft Windows versions of QuickTime 7 by visiting the Apple Support Downloads.
I can't open some files with QuickTime Pro; what can I do?
QuickTime supports many popular media file formats and also supports adding additional media file format support. Some third-party plug-in's that may help, such as DivX and Flip4Mac WMV Components for QuickTime, are free and some are offered for sale from the manufacturer.
See the Extending QuickTime webpage for more information and examples of popular third-party QuickTime plug-in's.
I cannot open MPEG-2 files using QuickTime Player on my Mac or PC. Why is this?
You may need the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component for Mac or Windows. It can be purchased and downloaded from the Apple Online Store.
Will a QuickTime Pro registration key for Windows work on a Mac, or vice-versa?
QuickTime Pro keys are platform-specific. Macintosh keys work on all supported Mac operating systems; Windows keys will work on all supported Windows operating systems. Content managed using QuickTime 7 Pro will appear and sound the same, regardless of which platform's version of QuickTime views it.
