Where is iSync 2.2 available?

iSync 2.2 is included with the Mac OS X 10.4.6 Update. iSync 2.2 is not available as a standalone update. When you install the Mac OS X 10.4.6 update, iSync is updated to version 2.2.

Does installing iSync 2.2 require making any changes to devices that were previously configured and synced?

iSync 2.2 includes changes that require all devices that are currently syncing with an earlier version of iSync to be migrated. For more details on the migration process, see iSync 2.2: Read before updating to Mac OS X 10.4.6 or later, or before first sync.

What to do before syncing with iSync 2.2

You should do several things before installing iSync 2.2 and syncing for the first time. For a complete list, see see iSync 2.2: Read before updating to Mac OS X 10.4.6 or later, or before first sync.

Tips for using Bluetooth

There are some things you should do if you sync via Bluetooth, such as configuring your phone to accept incoming connections from your computer without asking for confirmation every time. See see this article for more information.

If you have a Bluetooth-capable Motorola phone that does not sync via Bluetooth, see "Specific tips for syncing Motorola phones" below.

Tips for syncing any phone

Some phones require you to acknowledge a completed sync. After syncing your phone, if you want to sync it again, dismiss the OK dialog on your phone before using iSync to start the next sync. If you do not dismiss the OK dialog before syncing, the sync will fail.

Some phones display additional sync progress information. With such phones, iSync will display that information below the progress bar. For example, when iSync is resetting the Contacts on your phone, you will see "Reset 'YourPhone'sName' Contacts - 52". The number 52 indicates how many Contacts are involved in this sync action. This number will increase until all of the Contacts from the phone are received. Some models of phones display a percentage instead of a number.

If you cancel a sync from some phones, iSync may report "Cannot connect to the device" and not that the sync was canceled. This is the expected error message for such devices. Try turning the phone off and back on, then syncing.

If you have a Motorola RAZR V3c, avoid using phone numbers that exceed 31 characters or that contain double-byte characters (such as Japanese or Chinese language characters). Repeatedly syncing these contacts with your phone may cause the information to be truncated and lost.

iSync supports some versions of Motorola RAZR V3c, V3i, PEBL, SLVR L7, and V360 phones only over USB. If the Bluetooth Setup Assistant reports that "There were no supported services found on your device" when pairing your phone, this indicates that you will not be able to sync this phone using Bluetooth. To sync this phone with iSync use a USB data cable instead.

The Verizon-issued Motorola V3c phone only supports contact syncing. Calendar synchronization is not supported on this phone.

Specific tips for syncing Nokia Series 40 phones

iSync 2.2 supports the following Nokia Series 40 phone models: 6230, 6230i , 6820, 6822, 6021, 8800, 8801, 6111, 6270, 6280. For the complete list of supported phones with the current version of iSync, see this web page.

Avoid changing contacts on the computer if the contact includes a picture or voice tag on the phone. Altering the contact from the computer and syncing with the phone may remove the picture or voice tag.

Because Series 40 phones do not include a first and last name field, be sure that the first and last name consist of two words separated by a space when entering contacts on the phone (such as "John Smith" in a single field). iSync will use the first word as the first name in Address Book, the second word as the last name. Contacts consisting of one word will be treated as a last name only.

Some models, such as the Nokia 6111, may not sync back to Address Book on the computer if you enter a street address for a contact on the phone.Use Address Book to enter address information for contacts that you want to sync with your phone.

All iCal "To Dos" with a priority of "very important", "important" or "not important" sync to Nokia 6111 or Nokia 6270 model phones with a "Medium" priority.

If you cancel a sync with your phone and later find that some contacts still are missing from your phone even after you have successfully completed a sync, make sure all of your contacts that you want to sync are in Address Book on your Mac. If you are synchronizing a specific Address Book group, make sure it contains all of the contacts that you want to sync. If all of your contacts are in Address Book or the group you are synchronizing, as a last option, consider resetting the phone's address book by using the "Delete all contacts" feature of the phone. Then, sync again.

If a particular contact's Email field appears blank on your phone, but is not blank in Address Book, make sure that the field does not contain a Return character. Carriage Return characters are added to Address Book fields when you press the Return key. Address Book does not display these characters. The easiest way to make sure that a field does not contain one is to select the entire field and re-enter your data without pressing the Return key. You can also delete the Carriage Return by editing contact's Email field from your phone. Once you delete the Carriage Return, you will see the email address.

You must set the date and time on your phone before you can sync it with iSync.

Specific tips for syncing Nokia Series 60 phones

iSync 2.2 supports the following Nokia Series 60 phone models: N70, N90, 3230, 3600, 3620, 3650, 3660, 6260, 6600, 6620, 6630, 6670, 6680, 6681, 6682, 7610, 7650, N-Gage, N-Gage QD. For the complete list of supported phones with the current version of iSync, see this web page.

Avoid using your phone's labels for Telephone, Video Call, Video call (home), Video call (bus) on contacts you are syncing with the computer. Important: Using these labels will cause the contact not to sync, or may cause the contact to be erased on subsequent syncs.

If you see the message, "All attempts to connect to the phone have failed" or "There was an error getting data from the phone. The synchronization may have been cancelled on the phone," simply try syncing again. The next sync should work.

If the phone still does not sync, or you see the message "Device is not available or synchronization was canceled. Close dialogs and applications on the phone and try again," turn the phone off and back on again. The next sync should work.

Tips for syncing Sony Ericsson phones

For a complete list of Sony Ericsson phones supported with the current version of iSync, see this web page.

If a particular contact fails to sync to your phone, make sure that its First Name, Last Name, and Email fields do not contain a Return character. Once you delete the Carriage Return you will see the email address.

On K700i, S710, V800, z600, or z1010 model phones, if you change an event on both iCal and the phone, and then sync, you may not be alerted that there is a conflict. In such cases, the iCal event will overwrite the event that was changed on the phone.
