Publishing a password-protected iCal calendar to iDisk

Using the MobileMe option in iCal to publish a calendar does not require a name and password for users to access your calendar. However, you can also publish private calendars to your iDisk. These calendars require you to type your iDisk name and password and use WebDav authentication.

To publish a calendar to an area of your iDisk that requires a name and password:

  1. Select the calendar you want to publish from the Calendars list in iCal.
  2. Choose Publish from the Calendar menu.
  3. Select the changes, subjects, alarms and to do options you want.
  4. Click "Publish on a web server" to enable that option.
  5. In the URL field enter http://idisk.me.com/username/Documents where username is your iDisk or MobileMe account.
  6. Enter your iDisk/MobileMe username in the Login field
  7. Enter your iDisk/MobileMe password in the Password field
  8. Click Publish.


Your calendar is now published to your iDisk Documents folder. iCal will indicate the URL where this calendar has been published.

In order to subscribe to this calendar you will need to enter your iDisk username and password:

  1. Choose Subscribe from the Calendar menu.
  2. Enter the URL provided by iCal when the calendar was published.
  3. Click the Advanced options disclosure triangle.
  4. Select the "Needs authentication" option.
  5. Enter your iDisk username in the Login field.
  6. Enter your iDisk password in the Password field.
  7. Click Subscribe.


Tip: Keep in mind that the name and password used to subscribe to this calendar is your MobileMe account and password. Do not give out this account and password to other users unless you intend to give the user access to your entire MobileMe account.
