Aperture 2: Controlling the DPI setting for book pages output to JPEG or TIFF
Summary
You can output Aperture book pages as JPEG or TIFF images. These images are output as 200 DPI by default. Although Aperture does not offer a direct way to control the DPI setting when you do this, there is a way you can change it.
Products Affected
Aperture 2.X
You can edit Automator workflows to change the DPI setting for output. Workflow options are available when you click Print... in the book layout window to open a print dialog, then click PDF. This reveals a set of output options, including "Save PDF to folder as JPEG" and "Save PDF to folder as TIFF".

Follow these steps to edit and save a new workflow option with different DPI settings.
- Navigate to /Library/PDF Services. Locate the "Save PDF to folder as JPEG.workflow" file and double-click it. Automator opens the workflow.
- Click the disclosure triangle for the Render PDF Pages as Images action.
- Change the Resolution to the desired DPI, for example 300 dots per inch.
Note: Be sure not to change the Format. - Choose File > Save As... and name the new workflow "Save PDF to folder as JPEG 300 DPI.workflow".
The next time you click the PDF menu in the print book dialog, the new workflow will be available as a menu item.
You can create as many workflows with different DPI settings as you like this way. You can also create custom DPI settings for "Save PDF as folder to TIFF".
