What You Need to Get Started

To activate and use original iPhone in France, you need:

  • A valid Orange SIM
  • An Internet connection
  • An existing French iTunes Store account or a new French iTunes Store account (major credit card may be required)
  • iTunes 7.5 or later, available at www.itunes.com. Apple recommends using the latest version.
  • A Mac or a PC with a USB 2.0 port and one of the following operating systems:
    • Mac OS X version 10.4.10 or later
    • Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later (32-bit only)
    • Windows Vista Home Premium, Business, Enterprise, or Ultimate edition (32-bit only)

Before activating

  • Check Voicemail

Before you activate your original iPhone, make sure you listen to your current voicemails. If you are an existing Orange customer, activation will delete your existing voicemails. If you are transferring an existing number from another wireless operator, existing voice mails will not be transferred.

  • About SIM cards

If you already have an Orange SIM card, note that most Orange SIM cards will work with your original iPhone.

  • Plans and coverage areas

For a basic understanding of Orange plans in general, go here:
    http://iphone.orange.fr

To use the Orange Coverage Viewer, go to http://mobile.orange.fr/content/ge/high/v2_offre_boutique/la_couverture/couverture.html and enter your location to see coverage in your area.

If you have a question about Orange's network or plans for iPhone, contact Orange.

For any other question about iPhone, contact Apple.

  • If you are transferring your existing mobile number from another provider, you will need a PAC (Port Authorisation Code) from your existing provider. For additional information, contact your existing provider or Orange Customer Service.

Tip: You can forward the number you are porting to your temporary number, so you won't miss any calls while you are waiting for the port to complete.

Activating original iPhone

To start using your original iPhone, you must activate it using iTunes. If you already have a Orange account, you may need to upgrade your account to work with iPhone. You must be at least 18 years old to open an Orange account.

Tip: If your current plan is not a recommended plan for the iPhone, you can still activate iPhone with your existing plan, but you will not be able to have visual voicemail and unlimited data, and you might incur additional costs. If you wish to use your original iPhone with one of the dedicated Orange plans for iPhone, contact Orange Customer Service.
