How to identify an iMac (Early 2008)
Summary
The popular iMac line of computers has been in existence in one form or another since 1998. In August 2007, Apple introduced an Intel-based iMac with a glossy, widescreen display and an anodized aluminum frame. In April 2008, Apple updated the iMac with faster Intel Core 2 Duo processors, 800 MHz memory, up to 2 GB memory standard, and a new graphics option.
You can identify these iMac models in various ways. Use one of the methods below to help determine which model you have.

Check the part number on the box
You'll find a sticker on the outside of the original iMac packaging that lists the part number. Just match your number with one in the table below to find your iMac model. The two characters before the slash (/) vary by country, but the rest of the part number will be the same worldwide ("XX" represents the two variable characters below).

For iMac (Mid 2007) and iMac (Early 2008) computers, the listing will show Intel Core 2 Duo. The iMac (Mid 2007) models were introduced in August 2007.

iMac (Early 2008)
The iMac (Early 2008) models were introduced in April 2008.

- 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Check the serial number
On the bottom of your iMac stand, you'll find a label with the serial number printed on it, or from the Apple menu, choose About This Mac. Configure To Order (CTO) models are designated with an asterisk (*). Check the last three characters on the serial number:
