How to identify iMac (Mid 2007) and later models

Summary

The popular iMac line of computers has been in existence in one form or another since 1998. In August 2007, Apple introduced an Intel-based iMac with a glossy, widescreen display and an anodized aluminum frame. In April 2008, Apple updated the iMac with faster Intel Core 2 Duo processors, 800 MHz memory, up to 2 GB memory standard, and a new graphics option. In March 2009 Apple updated the iMac with 1066 MHz DDR 3 memory, up to 4GB memory standard and supporting up to 8GB, and new graphics options. In October 2009 Apple updated the iMac with larger 21.5-inch and 27-inch displays, faster Intel Core 2 Duo and Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, 4GB memory standard and supporting up to 16GB, and new graphics options.

Check the part number on the box

You'll find a sticker on the outside of the original iMac packaging that lists the part number. Just match your number with one in the table below to find your iMac model. Check the serial number

On the bottom of your iMac stand, you'll find a label with the serial number printed on it, or from the Apple () menu, choose About This Mac. Configure To Order (CTO) models are designated with an asterisk (*). Check the last three characters on the serial number:
