Use Sync Library with your Apple Music subscription

Use Sync Library to stream your music library on any device that's signed in to the Apple Music app with the Apple ID that you use with your Apple Music subscription. Learn what you need to use Sync Library and how to turn it on.

Apple Music isn't a backup service. Make sure to back up your music library before you make any changes.

To use Sync Library, you need a subscription to Apple Music

Sync Library requires a subscription to Apple Music. You can also use Sync Library with an iTunes Match subscription. If you don’t see the option to turn on Sync Library, then it might be because of the following:

  • You don’t have a subscription to Apple Music or iTunes Match.

  • Your device isn't signed in to the Apple Music app with the same Apple ID that you use with your subscription.

How to turn on Sync Library on your Mac

  1. Open the Apple Music app.

  2. In the menu bar, choose Account and make sure that you're signed in with the same Apple ID that you use with your Apple Music subscription.

  3. Choose Music > Settings.

  4. Click the General tab.

  5. Select Sync Library. Don't see Sync Library?

  6. Click Ok.

  7. Wait for your music library to sync. To check the status, go to the bottom of the sidebar and click Updating Cloud Library.

  8. Turn on Sync Library on your other devices.

How to turn on Sync Library on your PC

Follow the steps below to turn on Sync Library in the Apple Music app or iTunes for Windows.

How to turn on Sync Library in the Apple Music app for Windows

  1. Open the Apple Music app.

  2. At the bottom of the sidebar, click your name and make sure that you're signed in with the same Apple ID that you use with your Apple Music subscription.

  3. At the top of the sidebar, click Sidebar Actionssidebar actions button.

  4. Click Settings.

  5. Click General.

  6. Turn on Sync Library. Don't see Sync Library?

  7. Wait for your music library to sync. To check the status, go to the bottom of the sidebar and click Updating Cloud Library.

  8. Turn on Sync Library on your other devices.

How to turn on Sync Library on your iPhone or iPad

  1. Open the Apple Music app and tap the photo iconPhoto icon. Tap Account Settings and make sure that you're signed in with the same Apple ID that you use with your Apple Music subscription.

  2. Open the Settings app.

  3. Tap Music.

  4. Turn on Sync Library. Don't see Sync Library?

Stream your music library on other devices

After you turn on Sync Library on your Mac, PC, iPhone, or iPad, you can stream your music library on any device that has the Apple Music app. Just make sure that your device is signed in with the same Apple ID that you use with your Apple Music subscription. You can also stream your music library on music.apple.com.
