iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting iPod contact and calendar syncing for Windows Vista or Windows 7

Troubleshooting contacts and calendar syncing
You can sync information from Windows Mail (previously Outlook Express), Windows Contacts, Windows Calendar, as well as Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007 to your iPod on Windows Vista. Contacts and Calendars can be synced with Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2007 on Windows 7. If you are experiencing difficulties, here are some tips:
- Make sure you update your iPod. If you have issues with your iPod, please visit the iPod Troubleshooting Assistant.
- You must have a full version of Microsoft Outlook to sync information. Trial versions may not work.
- Outlook 2000 is not supported.
Exporting contacts and calendars
If you are having trouble syncing your contacts and calendars to your iPod using iTunes for Windows, you can work around issues by exporting your contacts and calendar events in disk usage mode.
To export contacts in Windows Vista
First, export contacts from Windows Mail or Windows Contacts.
- From the Start Menu click All Programs, then open Windows Mail or Windows Contacts.
- In Windows Mail, click the Contacts button (or press Ctrl+Shift+C).
In Windows Contacts, select one or all the contacts you want to export and click the Export button. When prompted, save the contacts in vCards (.vcf) format in a folder of your choosing.

Then, enable disk usage on your iPod if you haven‚ not done so.
- Open iTunes.
- Connect your iPod and wait for it to appear as a Device in the iTunes Source pane.
- Select your iPod. This displays the iPod Summary screen.
- Select the Enable disk use checkbox. Click OK in the warning dialog.
- Click Apply.
Finally, transfer the vCards to your iPod.
- From the Start Menu click Computer.
- Double-click the iPod disk icon.
- Double-click the Contacts folder.
- Drag and drop the previously saved vCards into this folder.

- Eject your iPod when finished.
To export your contacts from Microsoft Outlook 2007 directly to iPod:
- Open Microsoft Outlook.
- Click Contacts in the sidebar.
- Select one of your contacts that you want to add to your iPod.
- From the File menu, click Save As.
- Double-click the iPod disk icon.
- Double-click Contacts to open the folder.
- Choose vCard files (*.vcf) from the Save as type menu at the bottom of the window.
- Click Save.
Repeat steps 3 through 9 for all contacts that you want on your iPod.
