Du kan slå en font av eller på ved å bruke Fontbok for å tilpasse hvilke fonter som vises i fontmenyen i et program eller i Fontpanelet. Vanligvis behøver du ikke å tenke på hvilke Mac OS X 10.5 fonter du slår av eller fjerne; enhver font som er nødvendig i systemet slik som AquaKanaBold.otf, AquaKanaRegular.otf, Keyboard.dfont, LastResort.dfont og Lucida Grande.dfont, kan ikke deaktiveres med Fontbok.

Det kan likevel være at noen fonter som du kan slå av (deaktivere) kan være nødvendig i spesielle programmer. Som et eksempel er Terminal avhengig av Monaco-fonten for å fungere riktig.
