What You Need to Get Started
To activate and use original iPhone in the United Kingdom, you need:
- An Internet connection
- An email address to be used for all of your O2 bills and other account information.
- An existing UK iTunes Store account or a new UK iTunes Store account (major credit card may be required)
- Bank information for your monthly direct debit from O2
- A valid billing address (registered with royalmail.com)
- iTunes 7.5 or later, available at www.itunes.com. Apple recommends using the latest version.
- A Mac or a PC with a USB 2.0 port and one of the following operating systems:
- Mac OS X version 10.4.10 or later
- Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later (32-bit only)
- Windows Vista Home Premium, Business, Enterprise, or Ultimate edition (32-bit only)
If you are transferring your existing mobile number from another provider, you will need a PAC (Port Authorisation Code) from your existing provider. For additional information, contact your existing provider or Ofcom.
Before activating
- Check Voicemail
Before you activate your iPhone, make sure you listen to your current voicemails. If you are an existing O2 customer, activation will delete your existing voicemails. If you are transferring an existing number from another wireless operator, existing voice mails will not be transferred.
- About SIM cards
If you already have a SIM card, note that not all SIM cards work with iPhone. For best results, use the SIM card included with your original iPhone. There is no advantage to taking out your existing SIM and putting it in an original iPhone.
- Tariffs and coverage areas
For a basic understanding of O2 tariffs in general, go here:
www.O2.co.uk/iPhone-Tariffs.htmlYou will also see the different tariff options during the original iPhone activation process in iTunes.
To use the O2 Coverage Viewer, go to http://www.webmap.o2.co.uk/ and enter your location to see coverage in your area.
If you have a question about O2's network or tariffs for iPhone, contact O2.
For any other question about iPhone, contact Apple.

Activate iPhone
- Download and install the latest version of iTunes from www.itunes.com.
- Connect iPhone to a USB 2.0 port on your Mac or PC (not on the keyboard) using the included dock and cable. iTunes opens automatically.
- Follow the onscreen instructions in iTunes to activate iPhone and sync your contacts, calendars, music, photos, podcasts, videos, email accounts, and web bookmarks.
Important: Your iPhone may be able to receive calls in as little as 15 minutes after activation. If you are porting your current phone number, O2 will provide you a temporary number you can use until your port is complete. Note: When your port is complete, any voice mails on the temporary number will not transfer to your ported number.
If you are transferring your existing mobile number from another provider, you will need a PAC (Port Authorisation Code) from your existing provider. For additional information, contact your existing provider or Ofcom.
