iWeb 1.1: Changing your Domain file default location
Summary
All the information iWeb needs to create your websites is in one file known as the Domain file. In iWeb 1.x, this file must be named "Domain", but in iWeb 2 or later, you are free to name it anything you like. For the purposes of this discussion, we assume that the file is named "Domain." You can copy this file from computer to computer so that, for example, you can work on your site from home and at work.
Beginning with iWeb 1.1, you can now select a new default location for your Domain file.
Products Affected
iWeb 1.x
Here's how it works:
When you launch iWeb 1.1 for the first time, the Domain file's default location is
~/Library/Application Support/iWeb
(the tilde (~) represents your home directory)
Note: If no Domain file exists, you will be prompted to create a new site.
You can change your Domain's default location by double-clicking a Domain file in another location. For example, when you launch a Domain file that you keep in a folder on the desktop, iWeb opens that Domain and its location (the folder on the desktop) becomes the new default location. Thereafter, whenever you launch iWeb from the application icon, it will open this Domain file.
Note: If you move the folder or the Domain file in it to another location and open iWeb, you will be prompted to create a new site (because you moved the location of your Domain file). But to open the Domain file you moved, just locate it in the Finder and open it directly.
This feature allows you to have multiple Domain files and choose the one you wish to launch—even if it's on an external hard drive. However, the Domain file must be named "Domain." If you double-click a domain file you renamed, iWeb launches, but opens the last project file you opened that was named "Domain." If you have multiple sites you are maintaining, you can keep the separate Domain files in descriptive folders such as:
- Family
- Blog
- Vacation

Note: While you can have several Domain files, all sites that you want to publish to your MobileMe account should all be kept in one file.
