iPod: How to find the serial number

There are several places where you'll find your iPod serial number:
- In iTunes 7.6 or later
- In iTunes 7.3-7.5
- On the back of your iPod
- In the iPod About screen
- On your iPod packaging
- On your iPod invoice or receipt
- In iTunes 6
In iTunes 7.6 or later
- Hold down the Control key and choose Help > About iTunes (Windows) or iTunes > About iTunes (Mac).
- Release the Control key.
- As the iTunes and QuickTime version information scrolls, you will see the last connected iPhone's serial number and IMEI.
- Hold down the Option key (Shift key in Windows) to reverse the scrolling.
- Press the Space bar to pause the scrolling.
- You can copy this information onto the Clipboard and and paste it into a document.
In Mac OS X, choose Edit > Copy (or Command-C).
In Windows, press Control-C
In iTunes 7.3-7.5
- Connect your iPod to your computer.
- When your iPod appears in iTunes, select it.
- Click the Summary tab, and your iPod's serial number will display on screen.
Note: In iTunes 7 or later, when you view the iPod serial number, you can choose Edit > Copy to put the serial number on the Clipboard. You can then paste the serial number into an e-mail or web page (for registration for example).
On the back of your iPod
If you have an iPod, iPod mini, or iPod nano, the serial number is engraved on the back metal case—just direct your eyes toward the bottom.

In the iPod About screen
You can find your serial number in the About screen on your iPod. To do this: Select Settings > About.
Note: To view the serial number on older iPod models (without a dock connector) either select About from the main menu or select Settings > Info.
These screens show the menu navigation to find the serial number with iPod Software 1.3.
On your iPod packaging
If you still have the original packaging that your iPod came in, you can find your iPod serial number printed on the barcode label that's affixed to the packaging.
On your iPod invoice or receipt
Your product invoice or receipt may list your iPod serial number.
