Summary

Follow the steps below to leverage Internet Sharing to optimize your data migration between two computers.

Products Affected

MacBook Air

  1. Set up your home connection from your source computer.
    1. Choose Apple > System Preferences, and then click Sharing.
    2. Select Internet Sharing.
    3. Choose a network service from the “Share your connection from” menu. Do NOT choose airport for this step.
Note: You can use built-in FireWire for example – you do not have to be connected to the Internet to transmit data for data migration.
    4. Select AirPort to share your Internet connection from the “To computers using” list.
    5. Click AirPort Options and give your network a name and password.
  2. On your MacBook Air computer, connect to the AirPort network you created in step 1.
  3. After you are connected, open Migration Assistant on both computers and proceed as you would normally.
