What is an Apple ID?

An Apple ID lets you personalize your Apple experience. Once you've created an Apple ID, you'll use it to access Apple resources that need you to identify yourself. Examples of places where you can use your Apple ID:

      • Apple Online Store
      • iTunes Store
      • Concierge (for appointments at Genius Bar)
      • Apple Online Support (apple.com/support)
      • iChat
      • iPhoto and Aperture Purchases
      • iWork Publishing (publish.iwork.com)

How do I get an Apple ID?

You can create a new Apple ID at My Info. Or, if you are an active MobileMe member, your MobileMe account also works as an Apple ID account. Either way, Apple recommends you use your email address as your Apple ID.

Is there a way to recover my Apple ID Name if I can't remember it?

Yes. Follow the Password Retrieval Process on iForgot. See How to Recover Your Apple ID Name if you'd like more information.

How do I change my Apple ID Name or personal information?

You can change your Apple ID Name at My Info. Select your country and language, enter your desired changes, then click the Continue button. Changes take effect immediately. You can also use My Info to change your personal information, such as your mailing address or email address. See How to Change Your Apple ID Name if you'd like more information.

How do I change or recover a forgotten Apple ID Password?

If you've forgotten your Apple ID Password or want to change it, go to iForgot and follow the instructions. See How to Change Your Apple ID Password if you'd like more information.

Can I change the security questions for my Apple ID?

Yes. You can change the answers to the security questions provided when you originally signed up for your Apple ID. Sign in to My Info and select Apple ID.

Why do I see the message "This Apple ID has been disabled for security reasons” when I enter my password?

This message means that someone was unable to sign in to this account multiple times. The Apple ID system will disable the account to prevent unauthorized people from gaining access to your information. You'll need to follow the instructions on iForgot to reset your password.

Why do I see the message "Sorry...but we can't find data for you in our system" when I try to enroll an agreement, see my products or agreements online, or check a repair status?

You may have multiple Apple IDs. Try logging in with one of your other Apple IDs. Sometimes your product registration, repair status, or the ability to register an agreement is attached to one of your other Apple IDs. To log in with another Apple ID, you may need to delete the Apple ID cookie from within your browser preferences.

I have multiple Apple IDs. Is there a way for me to consolidate them into a single Apple ID?

Sorry, but this is not possible at this time via our online tools. You can speak with an AppleCare representative, who can help you consolidate your registered Apple products. They can also help register your iPods, iPhones, or Mac computers under a single Apple ID.

Why do I see the message "Your password is invalid" when I try to create or change my Apple ID Password?

You may be using unsupported characters in the password. See MobileMe and Apple ID passwords cannot accept some characters for valid characters to use in your password.

Can I still use my mac.com ID as an Apple ID?

If you signed up for .Mac before July 11, 2008, and also had an active account after July 11th, 2008, then your mac.com ID will still work as an Apple ID for purchases on the iTunes Store, Apple Online Store, and to purchase Apple print products created with iPhoto or Aperture. You can continue to use your mac.com ID or your new me.com ID as an Apple ID (both names access the same account).

NOTE: If your MobileMe or .Mac account has expired, you should change the email address associated with the Apple ID. See Expired user names still valid for other services for more information.
